To show drive storage (in MAC OS X):
Click Finder, Preferences, General
To Log Out (MAC OS X):
Command + Shift + Q
or Click the Apple icon, then click Log Out
Creating a new “Practice” user:
Click the Apple icon (upper left corner)
Click System Preferences > Users & Groups
Click the lock (enter password if needed)
Click the + (do not have to create Apple ID)
To see what version you have:
Click the Apple icon, About This Mac

To run your own pictures as wallpaper:
1. System Preferences
> Desktop & Screen Saver
2. In left column, under Folders,
click the folder with pictures you want to use.
3. Select Fit to Screen (or other fit)
and Change picture (Every minute) or other
To set a login screen background:
1. open the picture you want to use in Preview
2. In Preview, click File > Export
Format: PNG
Where: Desktop
Export as: com.apple.desktop.admin.png
3. Move it (or copy it) into /Library/Caches
click Go > Go to Folder .. /Library/Caches

To optimize the use of SSD, disable the Time Machine backups to boot drive:
sudo tmutil disablelocal
Enable it:
sudo tmutil enablelocal
Disable hibernation:
sudo pmset -a hibernatemode 0
Enable it:
sudo pmset -a hibernatemode 1
Check if TRIM is on:
sudo System-profiler SPSerialATADataType | grep 'TRIM'
After using my USB thumb drive for a few months, I realized that despite being empty, it still had very little space left in it.
I used this Terminal command and I saw that there was a folder with a lot of files that I had forgotten to delete by emptying the Trash.
Here’s the command:
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE
After you enter the command, press Return. Then enter the following one and press Return again for the changes to take effect:
killall Finder
As with our previous command, you can change the last word of the first command from TRUE to FALSE to hide your Mac’s hidden files and folders again.
